Enjoy a summer weekend retreat at Tilton House indulging in yoga, vegetarian meals and quality time. Beautiful Georgian country house nestled underneath the South Downs and edged by woodland with far reaching views across the Sussex Weald, Tilton House sits impressively in the natural landscape.

Tilton house offers an energizing, creative and carefree space for a maximum of 14 students. During this weekend, there will be a total of five yoga classes taking place in the beautiful 26ft Yurt. In between classes and meals, enjoy optional treatments or explore the five acres of Sussex countryside allowing you to do as much or as little as you please.

VENUE:

SurrondingNestled underneath the South Downs and edged by woodland with far reaching views across the Sussex Weald, Tilton House sits impressively in the natural landscape. The Georgian country house was once home to economist John Maynard Keynes and ballerina Lydia Lopokova as their retreat for contemplation and calm.

Charleston Farmhouse, home to the Bloomsbury set, shares the same private road, which winds into a network of footpaths that is The South Downs Way. Walk up onto the downs and find expansive views over the English Channel, stirring to the soul on any day.

SCHEDULE:

The welcome class will be at 6pm Friday however, you will be able to check in at any time from 3pm. The retreat finishes at 3pm Sunday.

Yoga with Clare will take place in the beautiful 26ft Yurt. We will rise slowly in the mornings and set intentions with meditation before stretching out the body and moving into a strong but intelligently sequenced vinyasa practice, designed to allow us to connect with the strength of the body combined with the subtle energies of the practice. The evenings will be more relaxing; yin sequences that will cultivate a deeper awareness of the body giving us space and time to surrender for a moment before leading us into restorative and yoga nidra where we will find a deep sense of relaxation, letting go of tension and melting into calm.

ACCOMMODATION:

The house was completely redecorated in May 2007, and all 7 bedrooms were decorated using natural materials. Every room has plenty of character and all have views over either the Sussex Weald or Downs. The garden has many mature trees, you could sling one of the many hammocks and relax to the sound of birdsong.

For the more energetic there is a tennis court hidden behind a row of ash trees. The firepit in a woodland clearing provides the perfect setting for spinning yarns and stargazing as night closes in. It's known that Lydia Lopokova the Russian Ballerina was inspired to dance on the lawns under the moonlight.

Elegant and comfortable bedrooms all with great views of the Sussex Weald or South Downs. Open fires. Library/ sitting rooms full of inspiring books and dreamy views.
 Glorious walks from Tilton House up and across the South Downs with inspiring sea views. A five minute stroll to Charleston Farmhouse, home of the Bloomsbury set. 


Please note there are three cats and a dog at Tilton who are kept away from the rooms but roam the halls.


FOOD:

Tilton House has a kitchen garden and aim to use as much home grown, fresh seasonal produce as possible in their menus. All meals will be vegetarian and super delicious prepared by their on-site chef. Rehydrate with water from a spring on the Downs. Any dietary requirements can be accommodated.

The retreat will include six chef cooked meals over this 48h period. Infinite supply of tea, coffee, fruit and snacks for anything in between meals.


GETTING THERE:

Trains from London Victoria to Berwick or Lewes run every hour and take 1 hour 30 minutes. Tilton House is just off the A27, and a car journey from Central London is 1hr 45minutes.



ABOUT CLARE

Clare is a knowledgeable teacher with over 10 years of experience. Primarily a teacher of vinyasa flow, she complements this with a love of yin, meditation and restorative yoga which she is also qualified to teach.

Inspired by a love of possibility, growth and alignment, her classes are laced with intelligent sequencing and mindful movement, always delivered in a way that is clear, fun and inclusive.

Qualified and active as a Sports and Massage Therapist with a certificate in Yoga Therapy Techniques she has a strong interest in anatomy and the individualism of bodies and is grateful to be able to share this knowledge and passion with her students.

She has studied with many renowned teachers, counting two of her biggest influences as Richard Freeman and Tiffany Cruikshank, both of whom she continues to study with. She is passionate about the many benefits of yoga and encourages students to take their practice far beyond the mat.

Clare currently lectures on yoga teacher training courses and teaches in studios across London. She also offers private lessons, corporate classes and workshops and leads regular retreats both in the UK and internationally.
